Our baby is due on the 14th of Nov. 9 months previous to this date - 14th Feb 2002 was the Congenital Heart Disease World Wide Awareness Day!!

Unfortunately we have had to remove the facility to leave comments at this time. This is due to a large number of false entries and hacking attempts making the maintenance too time consuming.

Thank you to all of the genuine people who have shared their thoughts with others, it has certainly helped us and given us some much needed strength.

Hello when i was boorn the doctors gave me a very slim chance to live they told my parents that i would never walk talk or see and that with the pulmunary atresia vsd i had a ruff time as a child . but i have prooved everyone to be more than wrong i turned 30 in march and i have two great children and a loveing family who support me in every thing i do and i plan to live a long fulll life with my children even with all the heart surgeries i have had to go threw and what may come i dont expect nothing but a great future for my self and hope for a great furture for your lovely daughter

Hi Sara, While trying to find more information on right isomeric heart, I came across your webste. My son was diagnosed to have the following diagnosis: Right isomeric heart, AV septal defact, Pulmonary atresia, TAPVD, cardiac and right sided aortic arch, and he is also born without a spleen. He underwent Right BT Shunt on 25 June 2002, a day after he was born and a Glenn anastomosis on 9th February 2004. His check up on 14th July 2005 revealed he had AV valve regurgitaiton - mild - moderate, glenn flow not obstructed and vent. fix normal. He has been on Disprin, Capoten and Ospen. We had him checked yesterday, because I noticed that his face has bloated up and the doctor discovered his regurgitaiton has worsened and added two more medications that he has to take forever. I am trying to gather as much info as possible to understand his condition better. I felt sorry for Sam. Our regards to you and your family.

Im sincerely sorry about your lost, I found this website looking for information on my unborn sons condition. So far I know his stomach is also on the right side and as well as you when I got my last ultrasound they said they couldnt see his heart because of the position but they think something is wrong. I was referred to get a echocardiogram by my doctor and that appt is next week hope and pray everything goes well. Best of luck to you and your family and Ill keep you in my prayers.

when I was 23 wks pregnant the baby was diagnois with renal agensis, and I was told that I was the only thing keeping him alive and they want to know if I would have a termination and that it would have to be soon before 24 wks so that I would not have to register the birth as live. It was the worsed time of my live as my husdand and myself could not agreed on what was the best thing to do, but because of the invasive procedure I went into premature labourand after 22 hrs he was born I held him until his heart stopped beating willing the staff to help him, I knew they could not but thats your baby and he looked so prefect a mini version of his older brother. So you have all my sympathy but I never say to people that I know what you are going through because I feel that it is different for everyone.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your baby. I was scouring the internet looking for "Woodfields" when I came upon your web page. My grandmothers last name was Woodfield, and though it may be a complete coincidence my family has suffered from a genetic heart defect that the doctors arent even very knowledgeable about to this day. I had two cousins die before the age of two from it and two others who survived, one of which now has a 14 year old son who will probably have a heart transplant in the next year. In addition I know of two other 2nd cousins in NZ who have already at young ages had heart transplants. In any case, I wanted to let you know that I am very sorry for your loss and wish you all the best.

hi ,i have just been reading your diary and i now how your where feeling, i was pregnant with twins one had hypoplastic right heart and the other baby was ok i had loads of complications during pregnancy and lots of trips to london to see doctors but nothing could save my baby who died at 26 weeks into the pregnancy i had to carry him until i gave birth to a healthy little boy max it was tough but we came out of it with a lovely little boy alough it should of been two im just gratfull i have somthing at the end of it all.

I m so touch by ur effort to put up your story and find the info very useful for me. My son born with the same condition like sam. He is having right isomeric heart, and stomach on the left. He is one year old and had not done any operation yet. SO far he is coping well. Thanks god for the blessing. I felt very sad for Sam and my heart goes all out to share the loss of your son. May god bless you always. In Malaysia, we do not have very high succession rate for this kind of operation, therefore we still do not know what should we do about him. My son was born at 22.55 on the 23rd of July 2004. My life will never be the same again as Jamie enriches it everyday. I am not an emotionally effusive man but I find myself compelled to write in this guestbook (in tears for goodness sake!) and simply say that I am so terribly sorry for your loss both individual and collective. I was at the wedding recently of my best man to the girl he met at my engagement party all those years ago. At the wedding I met a friend from university and his wife who was pregnant. I rather put my foot in it when I asked wheter he was looking forward to being a dad (as a still new father I was rather bursting) only to be told that they had a daughter who had a congenital heart disorder and had died. I havent seen him since the wedding but so very much hope and pray that his family and the littly are all happy and flourishing - as I hope are yours.

To those who have lost, I hope that your love continues to grow every day and the hurt subsides accordingly.

I too lost a son, Luke 13 years ago to Hypoplastic left heart, this was further complicated by transposed arteries. He lived till he was 15 days old. His defect was picked up in scans so we were unaware of his condition till he was 14 days old. They tried to operate but unfortunately he didnt pull through the operation. Every day i think about him. Im sure that a lot was learnt by the surgeons who operated on him and i hope that this helped other familys in our position. My love goes to you and your family and especially to Sam and Luke.

I am so sorry that you lost your precious baby boy Sam. His picture is beautiful. I am so sorry that you will always feel the pain of his loss and miss him so terribly much, especially on special holidays and his birthday.

I too lost a baby boy due to a cord accident. I remember him everyday and I miss him too so very very much. It was so difficult for me to see other pregnant women and healthy babies as well, but God has blessed me with two more healthy children a boy and a girl and they were both born in his birth month of September. They will never take his place but they sure did make his loss a little easier for my husband and our other children. God bless you!

July 11th of 1995 I had what i thought was a beautyful little girl named brittany. When she was six months old I learned she had a major heart condition. I tried to tell her doctors before that,that she was sick but they wouldnt listen.So we went to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem N.C. that was then when I learned she was born with Pulmanary Atresia w/VSD. She has had 3 open heart surgeries and 14 heart caths.She has a artificial valve and to stents.She has had to have a trach put in because of damage to her vocal cords due to so many surgeries.She is doing well but has alot more ahead of her.I have also loss a child in a drowning accident lasst year on April 30 and buried her the day before my birthday.I understand what it feels like to lose a child.Its nothing no one can explain.I am so sorry for your loss,but always remember, even though we dont understand because they are children,he is in a beautiful place waiting to see you again.Best wishes Tanya Corum from Eden N.C.

I am so very sorry to hear (read) about your son. Although I do not know you, and cannot say I know what youre going through, I genuinely send out my heart to your family.

Like you I also have a baby who was born with NUMEROUS heart defects, many the same as your sons. However we were fortunate to have his little heart successfully operated on (hes had 3 major open heart surgeries, the first being 4 days after birth), and does still face many surgeries in the near and distant future. Its been a long haul but were so thankfull to still have him in our lives.

I was sorry to hear of your sad loss, and felt I had to tell you about my new granddaughter.
My son and his wife have just had an addition to the family - 25/07/2003. Unfortunately their baby - Kelly Louise - was born with several problems, and as she was born in Birminham Womens hospital where they couldnt help she was transferred to Queens hospital in Nottingham as her stats. were not strong enough and Bristol would not take the chance of her being transferred there. In Nottingham she was given a major operation before she was a week old as she has a hernia and her diaphragm had not formed so all of her bits were being moved around in her little body. The surgeon who performed the operation built a diaphragm from tissue and hoped that it would grow as normal, and put all her inside bits in the right place. Her lungs had not formed well enough for her to breathe on her own and she was kept in an incubator. Her parents were told that she had a hole in the heart.

She has now been transferred to Singletons neo-natal unit since 12 August, and has been on pure oxygen, she has now started to breathe on her own, but will rely on oxygen for a while. Since being back in Wales they have been informed that the baby has 3 holes in the heart and will need operations to correct these. Kelly has a cyst on her lower back which has been found to have attached itself to some nerve in the spine. Her stomach has started to come back up through the made diaphragm and she lost a lot of weight. Kelly is now due to go to the Heath in Cardiff for another operation to correct this before the end of this month. We know she will have many operations ahead of her, but hope and pray that she will be a survivor.

At 17 weeks of pregnacy, we found out our unborn child had a heart problem. We live in Geelong, and were told wed have to go to Melbournes Womens Hospital for further information.
Finaly they told us that our Daughter had HYPO PLASTI RIGHT HEART SYNDROME.
After the shock past we learned that our Daughter had a very rare Heart condition, and although we had information on this condition in regards to the left heart, there wasnt any info that we needed.
Ater Andy was born,Andy needed an operation straight away, and I gotta tell ya, it was pretty scary. She recovered really fast, coming home only after 6 days after she was born and operated on.
Andreas almost 5 mths old, and she is doing really good!!!!
My family have been through so much, Andy has an 11 and a half year old brother, Jacob
2 sisters, Sam, 6 and Kianah, almost 5. My husband and I love and care more about our family now, more that ever. We understand the importance of family now and everyone has grown because of Andrea. We love her, and she loves us. THATS ALL THAT MATTERS!!!!

I was researching “babies born with heart defect and stomach on the wrong side” and I came across your page. My eighteen year old niece gave birth to her son on Dec 16, 2002. The doctor would not tell her mother (my sister) any information about the baby because of confidentially laws in the United States. My niece is eighteen and considered an adult in the USA, therefore the Dr. would only talk to the parent of the child. She cant fully relay back to us what the Dr. have told her. The baby has had his first surgery to put the stomach on the correct side and to insert the shunt. Your diary has really help us understand our little guy condition. Thanks.

im 17 and i read your artical in the paper and i feel an over welming sense of saddness but also at the same time happiness. saddness because such a lovely baby boy which was very clearly loved and wanted was taken away from such loving parents at such an early age but happiness because he got to experince real love from two people and no doubt other people, and he got to know what it was like or what it is like to be loved so much and with great compassion. i cant begin to imagenwhat the next few weeks month are going to be like but one thing i do know is that sam will never ever know what it is like not to be loved and im sure he knows what wonderful parents he has. i wish you all the best for the next coming months. youll be in my thoughts and prayers.
